CBS NEWS PROMOTES CLAIRE DAY TO LONDON BUREAU CHIEF
Note from Wendy Fisher, senior vice president of editorial for CBS News and Stations, to staff:
I’m pleased to announce Claire Day as the new London bureau chief.
Claire has worked for nearly two decades at the London bureau, starting in 2002 as an assignment editor.
She’s an experienced newsroom leader and manager who is calm under pressure. She is innovative, embracing new ways of working. Through it all, Claire has an innate ability to work with everyone under the toughest situations. Every day, she shows up with intense curiosity, and a desire to get the story right.
During her career at CBS News, Claire has coordinated the international coverage of major political and breaking news events, including the Oct. 7 terror attacks in Israel, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the royal wedding of Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton, the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and most recently, the death of Pope Francis.
As director of news assignments, Claire has overseen and managed all international deployments for foreign news assignments in conflict zones and daily news coverage. These include multiple wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and most recently in the Middle East and Ukraine, the Charlie Hebdo terror attack in France, and terror attacks in London, Manchester and Nice.
She has been nominated for Emmy Awards for CBS News’ coverage of Israel, coverage of the coronation of King Charles, and as part of the CBS EVENING NEWS for Outstanding Live News Program.
At every turn, Claire puts her international team first and is a passionate advocate of the team’s work. She’s also a fierce defender of the importance of international reporting. All of that and more is why she’s perfect for this role.
Please congratulate Claire on her new position.
