“CBS MORNINGS” CO-HOST TONY DOKOUPIL IN MAUI, HAWAI’I

CBS MORNINGS co-host Tony Dokoupil anchored today’s broadcast live from Maui to cover the aftermath of the wildfires. Dokoupil spoke to Hawai’i Governor Josh Green to discuss the conditions in Lahaina and the continued search for victims. Dokoupil also spoke to Oprah Winfrey, a part-time resident of the island, about her efforts to provide comfort and aid to survivors.

CBS News correspondents Carter Evans and Jonathan Vigliotti also joined today’s broadcast. Evans spoke to Maui resident Mick Fleetwood, drummer and co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, about how the singer is supporting the Maui community.

At the biggest evacuee shelter in Maui County, Oprah Winfrey, a part-time resident of the island, is providing comfort and aid to survivors. She introduced Dokoupil to some of them – more than one sharing how they escaped the flames by wading into the ocean. Watch Here

Mick Fleetwood, drummer and co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, has called Maui home for decades. His restaurant in Lahaina was among the hundreds of businesses destroyed — but he told CBS News correspondent Carter Evans that he is committed to helping rebuild the community: “This is my home.” Watch Here

More than a dozen family members living in a three-bedroom house and nightmares causing sleepless nights are just some of the stories Lahaina residents told Dokoupil: “The pictures are bad. The videos are bad. The reality is even worse.” Watch Here

Javier Barberi lost one of his businesses in the fires that have devastated Maui – and told Dokoupil that he was only able to locate it “based on the Banyan tree” across the street “because every single thing was completely decimated as far as the eye can see.” Watch Here
