CBS' "THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS" TO FEATURE MULTI-PLATINUM ROCK BAND "SIMPLE PLAN'S" SONG "UNTITLED (HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO ME?)," TO FIGHT DRUNK DRIVING
PSA's Featuring "Y&R" Actors Telling Viewers Not To Drink and Drive Will Air Friday, July 1 and Monday, July 4 and Will Provide Viewers With Contact Information For MADD
CBS Daytime's THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS will feature multi-platinum rock band "Simple Plan" and their hit song "Untitled (How Could This Happen To Me?)" during the denouement of their powerful drunk driving story arc on Tuesday, July 5.
In addition, PSA's featuring "Y&R" actors telling viewers not to drink and drive will air Friday, July 1 and Monday, July 4, and will provide viewers with contact information for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
In the storyline on "Y&R," the recent death of Genoa City teen Cassie Newman (played by Camryn Grimes) haunts teenager Daniel Romalotti (played by 2005 Daytime Emmy Award nominee Michael Graziadei) after he became drunk at a party. He doesn't remember driving home drunk, but the ensuing car crash resulted in Cassie's death. Daniel is now on the run from the law with his girlfriend, Lily Winters (played by Christel Khalil), and his memory about that fateful night is slowly starting to come back. A chance hearing of "Untitled (How Could This Happen To Me?)" on Tuesday, July 5, will jog his memory and cause him to realize that the tragic crash may not be all that it seems.
In addition to the airing of the song in the show and in promos for the show, several actors from THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS will participate in Public Service Announcements during the Independence Day weekend, aimed at discouraging viewers from drinking and driving, and from underage drinking. The PSAs, set to air Friday, July 1 and Monday, July 4, will provide viewers with contact information for MADD, one of the nation's largest crime victim assistance organizations. This year, MADD celebrates the 25th anniversary of its mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and to prevent underage drinking.
