DR. PHIL GOES INSIDE THE O.J. SIMPSON TRIAL AS THE FAMILIES OF VICTIMS NICOLE BROWN SIMPSON AND RON GOLDMAN APPEAR ON THE SAME SHOW FOR THE FIRST TIME, AIRING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1
Tanya Brown and Fred and Kim Goldman Speak Out About the Upcoming FX Mini-Series “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” as Author Jeffrey Toobin Counters Their Claims
(Hollywood, CA – January 27, 2016) – The highly-anticipated upcoming FX mini-series, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” has been receiving national attention and critical acclaim. However, family members of victims Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman are concerned about the television drama, appearing for the first time on the same show to discuss their strong feelings about the series. Author Jeffrey Toobin, whose book The Run of His Life: The People vs. OJ Simpson inspired the mini-series, explains why he wrote the book and the real intention of the mini-series. Does it honor the true victims in the case or does it exploit and sensationalize a real-life, brutal double-homicide? The episode airs Monday, February 1 (check local listings).
In the episode, Dr. Phil speaks with Nicole’s sister, Tanya Brown, and Ron’s father and sister, Fred and Kim Goldman, who all say they are angry that no one consulted them about the project and fear that it takes attention away from the real victims in the case, Nicole and Ron. Plus, find out why Tanya declined to appear on the same stage as the Goldmans and see them both face to face. Jeffrey Toobin responds to criticism that the series is exploitative and inaccurate, saying it’s a truthful portrayal of events that was made with great respect for the victims. He says that the mini-series is more focused on the importance of race and the justice system and is no way intended to undermine the families who have suffered greatly from the trial. Also, Brian “Kato” Kaelin, who was infamously part of the trial, shares his opinion after seeing the first episode and claims there are inconsistencies in the portrayal of his character.
