THE INSIDER FIRST | RANDY SPELLING ON HOW HE KICKED HIS ADDICTION

April 1, 2015 (Los Angeles, CA) – THE INSIDER’s Louis Aguirre sat down with author, life coach and son of late television and film legend Aaron Spelling, Randy Spelling, to discuss his on-going battle with addiction.  Randy goes into more detail about the dark moments in his life, stating, “I almost died. More than a handful of times. So I would say that I was knocking on death's door. It got so bad that I didn't think there was any other way and so literally…there was one night right after my father passed away in 2006. I had been up for a couple of days, extremely intoxicated, was losing my battle with addiction. I just felt extremely lonely and although I was intoxicated, I was looking at my life and thinking, 'This is it. There has to be more and if there isn't, I don't want it. I don't want to live this life.' So I literally fell to my knees and begged and pleaded and asked, 'Please. Something needs to change. Please help me.' It didn't stop right after that but it set something in motion for me to make a huge life change and once I did, all these other changes started happening.”

He continues on to explain how his mother Candy was instrumental in his decision to seek help revealing, “She was my only parent at the time…I was at her birthday party…I had had four, five, eight [drinks] too many. Afterwards, she pulled me aside and said, 'I think you have a problem.' And it was right there in that moment that I got angry and reacted the way that I reacted but I knew deep within me that something needs to change…A week and a half after, I checked myself into rehab and started doing the hard work.”

While discussing his sister Tori’s decision to be publicly open about her relationship troubles with husband Dean, Randy tells Aguirre, “I have to support her decision and her knowing what is best for her. Maybe that is a way that she needs to…deal with it that way while sharing with others. Because, let's face it, we all go through things. And some of the things that she's sharing, so many of us go through. And so she's sharing it…That's her choice.”

Randy’s latest book, Unlimiting You: Stepping Out of Your Past and into Your Purpose, is available now.
