President, Paramount Television Studios

As President of Paramount Television Studios, Matt Thunell is responsible for leading all aspects of the Studio’s expansive slate of hit series including Landman, Dutton Ranch, The Madison, Tulsa King, Lioness, The Agency, MobLand, Mayor of Kingstown, and School Spirits for Paramount+; Marshals for CBS; Reacher, Neagley and Ride or Die for Prime Video; Foundation for Apple TV; and Emily in Paris and XO, Kitty for Netflix; as well as upcoming new series Neagley, 9/12, Frisco King, Neuromancer, 12 12 12, Brothers, The Corrections, and Hollywood Arts. Under Matt’s leadership, Paramount Television Studios has announced a number of significant, new creative partnerships including ones with Iron Ocean led by Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple, Ashley Lyle & Bart Nickerson, and Liz Tigelaar through a joint deal with CBS Studios. In joint deals with Paramount Pictures, Paramount Television Studios also established new multi-year TV and film partnerships with Issa Rae, Jon M. Chu and The Duffer Brothers. 

Before Paramount Television Studios, Matt served as President of Skydance Television for three years, shepherding dramatic growth and expanding the brand across genres, growing the studio from four series to twelve in just two years. During his tenure, Skydance Television fostered new partnerships with top-tier talent, such as Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Anthony Mackie, Jamie Dornan, and Tim McGraw.

Prior to Skydance, Matt spent eight years at Netflix where he served in a variety of leadership positions. He and his teams were responsible for bringing to life a host of groundbreaking series like Stranger Things, Thirteen Reasons Why, Outer Banks, All the Light We Cannot See, The Umbrella Academy, Grace and Frankie, Black Mirror, and House of Cards. Throughout his tenure at Netflix, Matt was committed to nurturing the next generation of talent, helping found Netflix's emerging director program, among other initiatives. Before Netflix, he served as a creative executive at The CW, guiding development of the DC Comics universe (Arrow, The Flash) as well as critically acclaimed series like Jane the Virgin. He graduated cum laude from Yale University and hails from South Carolina.
