The Paramount+ original soccer documentary DESTINATION PORTO: THE UNIMAGINABLE JOURNEY makes its exclusive U.S. premiere today on the streaming service. The trailer is now available here.

In DESTINATION PORTO: THE UNIMAGINABLE JOURNEY, award-winning soccer journalist and CBS Sports analyst Guillem Balagué provides an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at his months-long travels across a Europe struggling to contain a devastating pandemic, as he covers the chase for the greatest annual prize in sports: the UEFA Champions League.

Balagué welcomes the cameras into his new world of COVID tests and long, lonely journeys through once familiar and thriving cities and streets, now all changed. DESTINATION PORTO: THE UNIMAGINABLE JOURNEY gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the top clubs in the world amid the new reality of empty stadiums and quarantine restrictions. The documentary features exclusive interviews with Chelsea midfielder Christian Pulisic, PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino, and former Liverpool UEFA Champions League winners and current CBS Sports analysts Jamie Carragher and Luis Garcia, among many others.

The film is the first from the Paramount+ original soccer documentary series STORIES FROM THE BEAUTIFUL GAME, with additional films set to debut in 2022.

“DESTINATION PORTO not only explores the most difficult UEFA Champions League in history, but also offers insight into the lives of those impacted throughout Europe’s largest cities,” said Pete Radovich, Coordinating Producer. “Guillem does a masterful job navigating this new and difficult world, connecting beautifully with supporters and players to immerse viewers throughout his unimaginable journey.”

Expecting the unexpected becomes Balagué’s mantra, but nothing can prepare anyone for covering the death of Diego Maradona in Naples or being in Bergamo, Italy on the one-year anniversary of “Game-Zero.” Balagué travels to some of the great cities of Europe – Rome, Paris, London, Madrid and ultimately Porto, Portugal, for the UEFA Champions League Final and the return of fans in the stands. It is a journey he has taken many times, but never like this.
