Sir Nick Faldo

Sir Nick Faldo, winner of six Majors including three Masters Tournaments and three Open Championship titles, and more than 40 tournaments worldwide, took over the position of CBS Sports’ lead golf analyst at the beginning of the 2007 golf season. He joined CBS Sports after two years as lead analyst for ABC Sports’ golf coverage.

After rapidly becoming a very accomplished amateur and making a smooth transition to the professional ranks in 1976, Faldo played on the first of 11 European Ryder Cup teams in 1977 as a 20-year-old. Throughout the mid-1980s, Faldo was a force in European golf. In 1987 he achieved his first Major championship victory by winning the Open Championship at Muirfield. Faldo followed that with back-to-back Masters triumphs in 1989 and 1990, and then another Open victory in 1990 at St. Andrews. In 1990 he became the first international player to win the PGA of America’s “Player of the Year Award.” In 1992, Faldo won his third Open title setting a 36-hole Major record with opening rounds of 66-64. Between 1993 and 1994, Faldo became the World’s No. 1-ranked player for 97 weeks. And later in 1996, he won his third Masters title and sixth major famously beating Greg Norman by five strokes after trailing by six going into the final round.

Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1997, Faldo holds the all-time Ryder Cup record for most appearances (11) and most wins and most points scored (25) and led the European Order of Merits on three occasions. He was a member of the first European side to defeat the U.S. in the Ryder Cup in 28 years in 1985. Two years later Faldo played a pivotal role as Europe retained the Cup, winning for the first time on American soil at Muirfield Village. He also was a member of the victorious 1995 and 1997 sides.

He was the 2012 recipient of the Ambassador of Golf Award, presented annually by the Northern Ohio Golf Charities and PGA TOUR. In 2015 Faldo also was named the Jack Nicklaus honoree for The Memorial Tournament for his contributions to the game of golf. Faldo’s 30 European victories include three World Match Play Championships, a European Open, four PGA Championships, three French Opens and three successive Irish Opens. Throughout his career, he was a winner in such diverse locations as Hong Kong, Jamaica and Sun City in South Africa. Faldo competes occasionally on the Champions Tour.

In 1996 he launched the Faldo Series, a global non-profit created to nurture opportunity through golf and to develop tomorrow’s champions. Today the Faldo Series is the largest co-ed global junior golf organization in the world, hosting thousands of players around the world with 40 events in 32-plus countries. Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng, who have both risen to a No. 1 World-ranking, are among those who have come through the Series and benefit of Faldo's early tutelage.

In 2018, Faldo launched the Major Champions Invitational where major champions from all TOURS choose amateur men and women from their junior programs to compete in team competition. Each team represents their champion. Sir Nick also announced the creation of the “Faldo Cup” Maridoe Junior Invitational, scheduled for May of 2021, which will see a field of 78 of the world’s top male and female junior golfers compete for what is positioned to become one of the premier championships in junior golf.

Sir Nick’s global business initiatives, driven through Faldo Enterprises, include a diverse portfolio of ventures including Faldo Design; an international golf design business, Faldo Selections; a personally curated collection of golf and lifestyle products; and most recently, the launch of 18 Pars Entertainment; a production and media company producing and distributing original programming across global linear, digital, over-the-top and social platforms. 18 Pars debuted two original series in 2020, in partnership with CBS Sports, including “Days and Knights” and “Faldo Formula.”

Faldo’s acclaimed teaching manual, A Swing for Life, was updated and re-published late in 2012. He also serves as lead analyst for the Golf Channel’s coverage of the PGA TOUR.

Faldo was honored with Knighthood in 2009, becoming only the second professional golfer to Sir Henry Cotton to receive the honor. He also was awarded the MBE (Member of the British Empire) in 1988. Faldo was born on July 18, 1957 in Welwyn Garden City, England. He has four children and currently resides in Winter Park, Fla. and Windsor, England.
