OREGON DUCKS FORWARD SEDONA PRINCE DISCUSSES NIL AND GENDER EQUITY ON ‘WE NEED TO TALK’

Oregon Ducks forward Sedona Prince joins CBS Sports’ WE NEED TO TALK tonight and discusses Name, Image and Likeness and gender equity in sports. In March, Prince used her social media platform to call for equal treatment of male and female student-athletes. The episode airs tonight at 11 PM, ET on CBS Sports Network.

Tonight’s edition of WE NEED TO TALK also includes a feature on Rosalie Fish, a member of the Cowlitz Tribe and a descendent of the Muckleshoot Tribe. Fish is a University of Washington runner who paints a red hand over her mouth when she competes to raise awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women. The show is hosted by Tina Cervasio, Sarah Kustok, Lisa Leslie and Dara Torres.

On talking about the gender inequities during the 2021 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments:

“We deal with inequity playing basketball growing up. It’s something that I had a passion for, I wanted to make a change in. And yeah, we saw the weight room was just kind of ridiculous there, so we were like, ‘We have to do something about this.’ And yeah, I just made a video, and it kind of changed the world, which was awesome.”

On how the NIL change has impacted her and how she uses her platform:

“I get to kind of promote brands that I believe in, things that I love, mostly things that I use and have loved for forever, which is pretty incredible. And it gives athletes kind of this new platform to, I don’t know, make a difference, make a change, make money, which is incredible. I see it as money that I can have for the rest of my life and try to invest and hopefully put my kids through college with, which is so incredible. For all women’s athletes, men’s athletes, it’s been an incredible change. A lot of people are impacted from this, not just the top football players that you all see. Every single student athlete has impacted from NIL, which is kind of incredible.”

On if she thinks about the NIL opportunities as a responsibility:

“Yeah, I mean it’s more a thing that I get to do. I don’t really see it as a job. I spend a lot of time working on my content creation and NIL opportunities. But it’s a blessing that I get to now just do what I love and make content and make money off of it. I do advertisements, which is so much fun.”
