Spero Dedes

Spero Dedes joined CBS Sports’ coverage of THE NFL ON CBS and the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship as a play-by-play announcer in 2010. He has also called regular-season college basketball for CBS Sports since the 2009-10 season.

 

Dedes worked as the preseason TV voice of the Los Angeles Chargers from 2015-2021.

 

Dedes has also called play-by-play on TNT Sports’ coverage of the NBA since 2015. He spent six seasons as the radio voice of the Los Angeles Lakers and was behind the mic for the franchise’s back-to-back championship run from 2009 to 2010. In 2011 he returned home to become a radio and television voice of the New York Knicks, where he spent three years chronicling the team’s run to two playoff appearances and “Linsanity” — Jeremy Lin’s storybook rise in early 2012. He has called select NCAA Men’s Basketball games for Westwood One Radio since 2017.

 

Previously, Dedes was based in New York, working as a play-by-play announcer and host for both NBA-TV and the New York Yankees-owned and operated regional sports network, YES. His resume also includes play-by-play on Westwood One’s coverage of NCAA football and basketball and the NFL on FOX. In August of 2004, Dedes was stationed in Athens as a reporter/play-by-play announcer on NBC’s coverage of the 2004 Summer Olympics. Dedes also served as host for NFL Network’s Total Access and called play-by-play on Monday nights during the NFL season from 2006-16.

 

Dedes began his broadcasting career at WFAN Radio in New York where he handled “20/20” updates and served as New York Jets beat reporter. Also in 2001, he worked as the radio voice of the Arena Football League’s New Jersey Gladiators.

 

The Paramus, N.J. native and 2001 Fordham graduate was the inaugural recipient of the Marty Glickman Award, given to the Fordham student announcer who best exemplifies the standards set by the late sports broadcasting icon.
