CBS SPORTS SPECTACULAR FEATURES "JIM NANTZ REMEMBERS AUGUSTA: SEVE AT THE MASTERS(R)" ON SUNDAY, APRIL 12
CBS Sports will broadcast JIM NANTZ REMEMBERS AUGUSTA: SEVE AT THE MASTERS® on Sunday, April 12 (1:00-2:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Jim Nantz, CBS Sports' host of the Masters, looks back at the career of one of the most exciting players to ever walk the fairways of Augusta - Seve Ballesteros.
JIM NANTZ REMEMBERS AUGUSTA: SEVE AT THE MASTERS celebrates one of the most exciting and dominant golfers at Augusta during the 1980s. Seve Ballesteros won two Green Jackets, the first in 1980 defeating Gibby Gilbert and Jack Newton by four strokes, and his second in 1983 by finishing ahead of Ben Crenshaw also by four strokes. The swashbuckling Spaniard also finished in the Top Five on five other occasions including being the runner-up in 1985, along with Ray Floyd and Curtis Strange, two strokes behind Bernhard Langer, and in 1987 when he was eliminated after one playoff hole before Larry Mize made his miracle chip shot on the second playoff hole to also beat Greg Norman.
"We are honored to have the chance to pay tribute to one of the most important figures in the history of the game and arguably the greatest European champion golf has ever known," said Nantz. "Since last fall Seve has been fighting a courageous battle against brain cancer. We feel it is the perfect time to remind people of his great days, and some of his heartaches, at Augusta. We will remember it all and, most importantly, golf fans will be reminded of the swashbuckling Spaniard in his glory days."
In addition to the highlights of these great moments in Masters history, the one-hour special includes interviews with past Masters champions, along with current Spanish golfing greats Sergio Garcia and two-time Masters champion Jose Maria-Olazabal as they reminisce about the impact Ballesteros had on their careers, and also pass along well wishes to him as he recovers at his home in Santander, Spain.
JIM NANTZ REMEMBERS AUGUSTA: SEVE AT THE MASTERS is produced and directed by Chris Svendsen. The Executive Producer is Jim Nantz.
