HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - May 8, 2008 - Dramatizing one of the most monstrous crimes in world history, the systematic slaughter of six million Jews by the Nazis, the 1978 miniseries HOLOCAUST will debut on DVD for the first time on May 27, from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. 

Showcasing the talents of a brilliant cast including Hollywood legends Meryl Streep, James Woods and Michael Moriarty, the important and influential miniseries garnered eight Emmy® Awards, including recognition as Outstanding Limited Series.  Director Marvin J. Chomsky ("Roots") and writer Gerald Green (The Last Angry Man) also received Emmy Awards for their excellent work.

Beautifully filmed on location in Berlin and Vienna, the story dramatically spans the dark and eventful decade from 1935 to 1945.  HOLOCAUST offers an intimate portrait of the Weiss Family and its personal tragedies and triumphs.  Heightening the drama, their story is told in counterpoint to another fictional family, that of Erik Dorf, a Nazi aide to Germany's infamous Reinhard Heydrich.  Premiering on DVD 30 years after its television debut, the HOLOCAUST three-disc set is available for the suggested retail price of $29.99. 

The television miniseries event of 1978, HOLOCAUST nearly swept the Emmys, winning top honors for Outstanding Limited Series; Best Actress and Actor for Meryl Streep and Michael Moriarty; Outstanding Directing for Marvin J. Chomsky; and Best Supporting Actress for Blanche Baker.  The series also garnered Best Costume Design, Writing and Film Editing wins.  Moriarty and Rosemary Harris also garnered Golden GlobesÒ for their performances. Chomsky was also recognized by the Director's Guild for his work on the series.  Additionally, the series received a Peabody Award

HOLOCAUST is presented in full screen with English Mono.  The DVD is not rated in the U.S. and rated 14-A in Canada.  The total running time is 7 Hrs., 29 Min.
