CBS ANNOUNCES NEW STRUCTURE FOR INTERACTIVE SALES TEAM

Three Industry Veterans to Head Up Efforts, Reporting into CBS Network Sales
with Continuing Accountability to CBS Interactive

 

            CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS) announced today a new structure for the Company's growing Interactive unit. The organization places three sales veterans within CBS Network Sales reporting into Jo Ann Ross, President, Sales, CBS Television Network.  The realignment is designed to best accommodate client and agency demand for cross-platform buying across television, online and mobile. The move is also intended to leverage the strength, process and relationships of the CBS Network Sales team while focusing the Interactive sales force into three core areas as follows: CBS SportsLine.com and CBS Mobile headed by Richard Calacci; the CBS Audience Network, CBS.com and  CBSNews.com headed by Kenneth Lagana; and Last.fm headed by Kevin Menard.  

 

           "This strategic alignment is designed to take advantage of the scale, process and connections inherent in a Network Television Sales division like ours," said Ross. "Interactive Sales will now have the direct benefit of a multi-billion dollar-generating sales force, while also leading their focused and nimble Interactive sales operations. Plus, it has the added benefit of being what our clients and agency partners want as major brands move online and on to the mobile platform."

 

At the same time, Calacci, Lagana and Menard, each of whom now hold the title of Senior Vice President, CBS Interactive, will work closely with Stephen Snyder, Chief Operating Officer, CBS Interactive as well as the heads of each of the CBS Interactive properties. Additionally, Calacci will work closely with Cyriac Roeding, Executive Vice President, CBS Mobile. Patrick Keane, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer at CBS Interactive will support the new sales structure with leading-edge online strategy, reporting and analytics for all CBS next-generation platforms.

           

            "CBS has added three major revenue opportunities since late April, forming the CBS Audience Network, acquiring Last.fm and adding an advertising model to CBS Mobile," said Quincy Smith, CBS Interactive President.  "In Rich we have a true veteran of CBS Network Sales, in Ken we have one of the most experienced Interactive salespeople on the planet and in Kevin we have killer start-up expertise.  Plus, we now have the general managers of each business in Interactive focused on execution.  All of whom report to Jo Ann, a huge testament as to how seriously CBS is taking Interactive execution."

Richard Calacci has spent the last decade working within the CBS Network Sales division where he has gained experience working in every daypart with a focus in sports, primetime and new business development. He served most recently as Vice President, Primetime Sales. Before being promoted to this role, Calacci was Vice President, Midwest Sales where he was based in Chicago and prior to that, he was a Sports Account Executive. While with CBS, he has forged close relationships with some of CBS's biggest clients. Prior to joining CBS, Calacci worked as an Account Executive for NBC Cable, The Baseball Network and at Intersport Television in Chicago.  

Kenneth Lagana, who will be handling sales for some core CBS Interactive properties, will also oversee sales for original content such as "Clark and Michael" and Wallstrip. Previously Lagana had been serving as Vice President of East Coast Sales and Network Integration, CBS Interactive, where he has been responsible for all CBS Interactive properties. Prior to this Lagana was Vice President, National Sales, CBS SportsLine.com, where he oversaw the revenue-generating aspects of the property while managing the sales relationships with the major sports leagues. While at CBS SportsLine he also served as Sales Director for the North East region and then was elevated to oversee the entire East Coast.  Earlier in his career, Lagana held sales and management positions at Turner Interactive for CNN.com, CNNfn.com, CNNSI.com and the online Turner Entertainment properties.

 

Before joining Last.fm last month, Kevin Menard was Vice President, Business Development at Heavy.com, a video broadband network. There, he helped generate new business for the site, including developing new categories, building new sales tools and working with existing clients to increase their media buys. Previously, he worked in New Business Development for MTV Networks, concentrating on cross-platform sales amongst the MTV properties, including basic tier cable, supplemental channels and online. Prior to MTV Networks, he served as an Account Executive for Fox News Channel and as Vice President of Sales for Alltrue.com, Director of Sales for Pseudo.com, and as a Sales Executive for the L90 Advertising Network.
