JOE FERREIRA NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT
AND GENERAL MANAGER, CBS AUDIENCE NETWORK
Heather Moosnick Named Vice President, Business Development,
CBS Audience Network
Solely Dedicated CBS Audience Network Management Team to Oversee the Two Dozen Partners Contributing to Nearly 90% Unduplicated Web Reach for CBS Content in an Open, Non-Exclusive Content Syndication Strategy
Joe Ferreira has been named Senior Vice President and General Manager, and Heather Moosnick has been named Vice President, Business Development, for the CBS Audience Network, it was announced today by Steve Snyder, Chief Operating Officer, CBS Interactive.
Ferreira, who most recently served as Vice President of Programming, Executive Producer, CBS Sportsline.com, will coordinate among various CBS properties to oversee programming and syndication decisions for the newly-created and recently-launched CBS Audience Network. Ferreira will also manage the relationships with the 24 online partners that have signed up with the Audience Network within the two months since its inception. Together, these partners distribute CBS content to nearly 90% of the Web through the Company's open, non-exclusive content syndication strategy.
"The CBS Audience Network needs a dynamic leader who truly understands how to build an audience and monetize it within the burgeoning online video market," said Snyder. "Joe has a one-of-a-kind track record running March Madness on Demand - one of the largest online live streaming events ever. Together with his nearly 10 years of experience within CBS, he is the ideal executive to run the CBS Audience Network."
The creation of the CBS Audience Network was announced in April through content deals with a host of online distributors including AOL, Microsoft, CNET Networks, Comcast, Joost, Bebo, Brightcove, Netvibes, Sling Media and Veoh. All content, which includes clips and full-length programs, is advertiser supported and free to the consumer. In May, CBS announced phase II of the Audience Network which included partnering with leading community-building websites and social application providers to allow users to incorporate CBS-provided clips to their blogs, wikis, widgets and community pages. These new partners included Automattic, Clearspring, DAVE Networks, Goowy Media, meebo, MeeVee, Musestorm, Ning, RockYou!, Slide, VideoEgg, Voxant and vSocial.
"The CBS Audience Network makes the Company's entertainment, news and sports programming the most widely distributed and accessible professional video online, and has become a core of the CBS Interactive strategy to create open, non-exclusive partnerships that bring our content to the places where the audience is online," said Ferreira. "It's an honor to head up an initiative like this working with Quincy [Quincy Smith, President, CBS Interactive], Steve and the terrific team at CBS Interactive."
At the same time, Snyder has announced the hire of Heather Moosnick to serve as Vice President, Business Development for the CBS Audience Network. In her role, Moosnick will work closely with Ferreira to identify potential partners and build relationships with existing online companies to ensure the Audience Network continues to serve the tastes and interests of its growing online audience.
Since 2000, Ferreira had been responsible for content and programming of CBS SportsLine.com sites. He also spearheaded two major projects that received acclaim in the Interactive space: In 2006 and 2007 he managed all aspects of the advertising-supported NCAA March Madness on Demand, which made the games available for free online. The MMOD offering exceeded expectations in terms of user participation and technology capabilities and was heralded as a "watershed moment" in Internet history. Weeks later Ferreira served as Executive Producer of "Amen Corner Live," an Internet-only live webcast from the famous 11th, 12th and 13th holes at Augusta National Golf Club. Both March Madness on Demand and Amen Corner Live received Emmy nominations for Original Broadband Coverage. Earlier in Ferreira's career he was Director of Sports Research for CBS.
Prior to joining CBS SportsLine.com, Ferreira worked at the NFL as Director of Broadcasting and Research and then as Senior Director of Broadcasting and Scheduling. In this later role he served as a main League liaison with the broadcast networks and radio properties that carried the NFL games. He was directly involved with negotiations of the NFL network television contracts in 1993 and 1997 and was the League's main television ratings and programming analyst. He was also responsible for the annual construction of the 248-game NFL playing schedule. From 1990-1992 Ferreira worked as Director of CBS Sports Research where he coordinated all programming and sales research. From 1987-1990 Ferreira held various jobs within NBC including Administrator of Programming for NBC Sports and Manager of Sports Research. Ferreira graduated from Ball State University School of Radio/TV in 1984.
Moosnick joins CBS Interactive with eight years of experience in new media content transactions for established media companies and digital businesses worldwide. She most recently served as the General Counsel for the launch of Music Nation, an online unsigned music artist community. Prior to that, she spent six years at MTV Networks structuring and negotiating multi-platform content licenses with the major record labels and launching partnerships for new MTV Networks channels and digital business worldwide. Moosnick also spent two years as an Intellectual Property transactional attorney at Hughes Hubbard and Reed LLP where she worked with clients such as StarMedia and Citibank in launching their online and wireless businesses. She holds a JD from the UCLA School of Law and a BS from Northwestern University.
