BETTY CHIN IS NAMED SENIOR PRODUCER,
"CBS EVENING NEWS WITH BOB SCHIEFFER"

Betty Chin has been named Senior Producer, Futures and Planning, for the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH BOB SCHIEFFER, it was announced today by Rome Hartman, executive producer of the broadcast. The appointment is effective immediately. ???

Most recently, Chin, 43, served as a producer for the "Eye on America" reports on the CBS EVENING NEWS (2002-05). While there, she produced an investigative report that led to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's recall on the Dodge Durango, an award-winning series on bipolar children and coverage of Hurricane Katrina's aftermath. Chin was also a producer in CBS News' Northeast bureau (1997-2002), where she reported on the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Washington, D.C.-area sniper attacks, the ballot recount during the 2000 presidential election and the controversy surrounding Elian Gonzalez. Prior to that, Chin was a medical producer (1994-97) and an associate producer (1992-94) for the CBS EVENING NEWS. She also served as an assistant producer for CBS NEWSPATH, the Network's 24-hour news service (1989-92). Chin was as a broadcast facility coordinator for CBS, Inc. (1987-89). She began her career as a commercial coordinator at WCBS-TV, the CBS Owned station in New York (1984-87).

She has shared in two Emmy Awards for coverage of breaking news stories: the Sept. 11 attacks and the Washington, D.C. sniper attacks.

Chin was born in New York, N.Y. She was graduated from Fordham University in 1984 with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. Chin lives in New York with her husband.
