COUNTRY MUSIC STAR MIRANDA LAMBERT TELLS “CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD” A GOOD SONG “MAKES PEOPLE FEEL SOMETHING”
LAMBERT TELLS LEE COWAN: “BEING HONEST – THAT’S MY TRICK”

Country music star Miranda Lambert says a good song “makes people feel something,” in an interview with Lee Cowan for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD to be broadcast June 1, 2014 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.
Lambert, who has been named Female Vocalist of the Year, by the Academy of Country Music five years in a row, has had four solo albums sell more than a million copies. Her success, she says, is based on being honest in her songs.
“That’s my trick. That’s all I got,” she tells Cowan, while laughing. “It’s in everyday life, and it’s in my music and you know, it gets me into trouble sometimes, but I just feel like that’s how God made me, is just to whatever I feel is on my face and out of my mouth.”
Indeed, Lambert has earned a huge fan following with anthems about heartache and revenge like “Kerosene,” “Gunpowder and Lead” and “White Liar.” However, when she broke into the business, it was a style country music hadn’t seen in a while.
“It took a minute,” Lambert says. “Yeah, it took a little bit. I don’t think people really understood what it was about, you know? And country radio too, at first, I think it was like too much, they were afraid people wouldn’t respond.”
Radio and the fans get it now. Lambert’s fifth album, Platinum, hits stores June 3.
These days Lambert spends her time in Tishomingo, Okla., where she lives with her husband, country music and reality TV star Blake Shelton.
Lambert talks with Cowan about writing music, Oklahoma, her childhood in Texas, her weight loss, how fans have said her songs have helped them and her relationship with Shelton.
“Music is what drew us together in the first place, but we have a lot in common outside of that,” Lambert says of Shelton. “So that’s why our relationship is strong.”
Still, the tabloids have had a field day reporting breakups or babies for the country music stars.
“Yeah, I’ve had like four babies in the last two months and we have $100 million divorces,” Lambert tells Cowan. “Blake’s like, if one of us getting $100 million divorce, then we’re getting divorced! If one of us is offered a $100 million, we’re doing it!”
Lambert also talks with Cowan about how she’s changed now that she’s 30.
“I feel like I rushed through a lot of my 20s, just in a hurry to get to the next thing, the next thing,” Lambert says.
“And now I feel like I’m excited to sort of slow down and enjoy the moment a little more,” she adds. “You know, just hanging out a little bit more.”
