Justin Lin

Justin Lin is a Taiwanese-born American filmmaker whose movies have grossed more than $2 billion worldwide to date. Lin is responsible for re-booting the “Fast & Furious” feature film franchise and is well known for his groundbreaking work in virtual reality and innovative film and television projects through his production company Perfect Storm Entertainment.

Most recently, Lin directed the critically acclaimed blockbuster film “Star Trek Beyond,” the final installment in the modern “Star Trek” feature trilogy. His additional directing credits include “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” “Fast & Furious,” “Fast Five,” “Fast and Furious 6,” “Annapolis” and “Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee,” which was released by IFC Films and The Weinstein Company after it successfully premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Also, Lin’s solo directorial debut, the critically acclaimed “Better Luck Tomorrow,” which he co-wrote, co-produced and edited, premiered at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival where it was nominated for the festival’s Grand Jury Prize. Additionally, the film went on to receive a 2004 Film Independent Spirit Award nomination.

In 2015 Lin helmed “Help,” the first ever live-action virtual reality short film for mobile devices, in partnership with Google’s “Spotlight Stories.”

In addition to the S.W.A.T. pilot episode, Lin directed several episodes of the cult comedy series “Community” for television.

In 2012 Lin founded the production company Perfect Storm Entertainment with the intent of producing films and television with a global perspective. Currently, the company is in development on “The Stand Off” for Netflix. On television, Perfect Storm is responsible for SCORPION, on the Network, and the upcoming series “Warrior” for Cinemax. Additionally, the company is developing and producing several new projects for CBS, Paramount, Sony, Cinemax and Warner Bros.

Also, Lin is the founder of the digital company YOMYOMF, with the mission of providing a new outlet for aspiring Asian-American filmmakers.

Lin is a graduate of the University of California’s School of Theater, Film and Television where he studied directing.
