Alex Tarrant

Alex Tarrant hails from Auckland, New Zealand, Aotearoa and is of Māori, Samoan and Niuean descent. He is a 2012 graduate of New Zealand’s prestigious drama school Te Kura Toi Whakaari O Aotearoa and has subsequently established himself as one of Australasia’s highest profile and most prolific actors.

 

Following his studies, he was cast in numerous hit TV shows in New Zealand and Australia, including “Shortland Street,” “When We Go to War,” “Filthy Rich,” “Tatau,” “SeaChange” and “800 Words.”

 

2019 marked his international feature film debut, with his involvement in the Canadian sci-fi feature film “Night Riders,” which was written and directed by the Saskatchewan-born Cree/Métis filmmaker Danis Goulet (2019 Sundance Institute Indigenous Film Fellow). This saw Tarrant cast as the hero, Leo, for which he was nominated as best supporting actor at the 2022 Vancouver Film Critics Circle.

 

Most recently he was cast in season one and two of the Amazon Tolkien prequel “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” as Valandil.

 

Tarrant enjoys gaming, making orgonite, surfing, horseback riding and riding motor bikes. His birthday is May 1. He can be followed on Instagram @Aggytarant.
