Alex Tarrant, a native of Auckland, New Zealand (Aotearoa), is of Māori, Samoan and Niuean descent. A 2012 graduate of New Zealand’s national drama school, Te Kura Toi Whakaari O Aotearoa, he has become one of Australasia’s most prolific actors.
Tarrant starred as Kai in NCIS: HAWAI’I, on the Network. He can also be seen as Valandil in the first two seasons of Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.”
His early career includes roles in popular New Zealand and Australian television series such as “Shortland Street,” “When We Go to War,” “Filthy Rich,” “Tatau,” “SeaChange” and “800 Words.” In 2019, he made his international feature film debut in the Canadian sci-fi thriller “Night Raiders,” directed by Danis Goulet. His performance as Leo earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 2022 Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards.
Off screen, Tarrant is passionate about learning, growth and giving back. He enjoys golf, jujitsu and spending time with his family.
