HUGH JACKMAN WILL ONCE AGAIN HOST "THE 58TH ANNUAL TONY® AWARDS," TO BE BROADCAST LIVE FROM RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL IN NEW YORK, SUNDAY, JUNE 6 ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK
Film and stage star Hugh Jackman ("The Boy from Oz") will once again host THE 58TH ANNUAL TONY® AWARDS, the most anticipated evening in American theater, to be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York, Sunday, June 6 (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET; delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network. The announcement was made last night at The Imperial Theatre.
The ceremonies, presented by Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing, have been broadcast on CBS since 1978. Earlier this year, CBS extended its 27-year relationship with the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing by signing a new six-year agreement to continue broadcasting the annual TONY® AWARDS through 2010. The Tonys were founded in 1947 as a memorial to Antoinette ("Tony") Perry, the American Theatre Wing's World War II chairperson.
Hugh Jackman currently stars as Peter Allen in the Broadway hit "The Boy from Oz." Jackman starred as Wolverine in the hit movie sequel "X2: X-Men United" as well as the original "X-Men" movie. Other feature film credits include "Kate & Leopold," "Someone Like You" and "Swordfish." Jackman has also starred in the Australian independent films "Paperback Hero" and "Erskineville Kings," for which he received the Australian Film Critics Circle "Best Actor" Award. His Australian television series include "Corelli" and "Halifax f.p." Jackman's theater credits include the role of Curly in the London revival of "Oklahoma," as well as lead roles in "Beauty and the Beast" and "Sunset Boulevard." Jackman recently finished filming "Van Helsing" which will be released worldwide in May 2004.
This will mark the seventh year that the historic Radio City Music Hall is home to the Tonys.
Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment will serve as the new executive producers. Weiss, who won an Emmy for the 2002 broadcast, will also serve as director for the fourth consecutive year. Elizabeth Ireland McCann returns as managing producer and Joey Parnes will serve as coordinating producer for Tony Award Productions.
