THE "OVERALL EXCELLENCE" AWARD FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW ???
CBS News was honored with a total of seven Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) 2005 Edward R. CBS News (television) was awarded the prestigious Overall Excellence Award for the third consecutive year, as well as the citation for Continuing Coverage. CBS Radio News received five awards, as it did last year, which is again more than any other network radio news organization. The winners will be honored at RTNDA's awards dinner on Oct. 17 in New York City.

CBS News has now won the prestigious Overall Excellence award for the past three years. Included in this year's award were stories covering a broad range of topics: the possibility of a new world superpower, genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan, the creation of an improbable music school in the birthplace of apartheid and high school students accused of sodomizing their younger teammates. The second award on the television side went to THE EARLY SHOW for Correspondent Elizabeth Palmer's coverage of the hostage situation in Beslan, Russia.
