GIL SCHWARTZ

Gil Schwartz was named Executive Vice President, Communications, CBS, in June 2000. He is responsible for a communications department that incorporates public relations, media relations and corporate and internal communications functions for all of CBS Television's media businesses and operations. Additionally, he oversees the communications functions of UPN and serves as CBS Television's communications liaison with its parent corporation, Viacom Inc. He reports directly to Leslie Moonves, Co-President and Co-Chief Operating Officer, Viacom.
Schwartz was Senior Vice President, Communications, CBS Corporation, prior to the Company's merger with Viacom Inc. He joined CBS in that capacity in 1996 after 14 years with Westinghouse Broadcasting (Group W), having served the communications requirements of all aspects of that company's operations before its merger with CBS. With his wide-ranging experience in media relations, corporate communications and strategic planning, he has built at CBS the strongest communications organization in the industry.
Schwartz joined Group W in 1981 as a Public Affairs Associate for the Teleprompter Corporation. When Teleprompter was acquired by Westinghouse Broadcasting, he became Manager of Public Relations. In 1984, he was named Director of Communications for Group W Cable. After Group W's divestiture of cable in 1987, Schwartz was named Director of Communications for Group W Television. In 1989, he was named Vice President of Communications for the television station group, and in 1993 he became Vice President of Corporate Communications for Westinghouse Broadcasting.
He is a graduate of Brandeis University (B.A., theater arts and English).
