LILLY ENCOUNTERS SEVERAL INTERESTING LEADS WHEN SHE RE-OPENS THE CASE OF A HITCHHIKER FOUND MURDERED FIVE YEARS AGO, ON "COLD CASE," SUNDAY, DEC. 21

"The Hitchhiker" -- When she re-opens the case of a hitchhiker found murdered in 1997 near Atlantic City, Lilly uncovers new evidence that leads her closer to the killer, on COLD CASE, to be broadcast Sunday, Dec. 21 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Marita Grabiak directed the episode from a script by Sean Whitesell.

After reviewing the case, Lilly and the homicide team at first believe that the victim, Matt Mills, was hitchhiking with his recent casino winnings and was murdered by a truck driver who may have committed a series of killings along his truck route. However, after further investigation, they learn that Matt had a checkered past, having robbed a convenience store as a teen with his cousin, Blaine. This revelation leads Lilly to believe that Matt's murder may have been an act of revenge. But when Matt's sister, Katie, recounts a conversation she had with her brother on the night he was killed, Lilly begins to put the pieces together and eventually comes up with an unlikely suspect.

"The Runner" -- Lilly reopens a 1973 case involving the unsolved death of a young police officer murdered after responding to a call at a drug-infested housing project, on a rebroadcast of COLD CASE, on a special night, Thursday, Dec. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. David Straiton directed the episode from a script by Veena Sud. (Originally broadcast 10/26/03)

When new evidence in the case is delivered by a woman who appears strung out on drugs, Lilly decides to investigate. She soon learns that the officer, Jay Washington, was hiding a secret past from both his fellow officers and young wife, including his days growing up in that same project and becoming involved with a gang of drug-runners. However, Lilly's pursuit of the truth angers older members of the police force who feel she may be tarnishing the memory of one of their own.
