48 HOURS: “Find Yura – Manhunt on the Dark Web” was Saturday’s #1 primetime program with viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Saturday, Feb. 29. The broadcast delivered 3.42 million viewers and a 0.6/03 with adults 25-54. 48 HOURS was up +20% in adults 25-54 (from 0.5/03) and added +380,000 viewers (from 3.04m, +12%) compared to the previous week.

Saturday’s broadcast featured Peter Van Sant and 48 HOURS’ investigation into an alleged murder-for-hire plot against Alexis Stern, a Minnesota teenager, that led to a global manhunt for the elusive mastermind behind several hit-man-for-hire websites who calls himself Yura.

It’s a trail 48 HOURS has been on for more than two years, using information from a source to tip authorities and helping to expose about 20 active murder plots. At least four of the cases have ended in arrests, convictions and prison terms. The hunt for Yura, whose identity and location is unknown, led to England, India and the Eastern European country of Moldova, and eventually culminated in a dramatic encounter in Queens, N.Y.

The 48 HOURS investigation revealed that anyone with money and a computer can find websites advertising hit men for hire on the dark web, which is an anonymous layer of the internet hidden beneath the one we all know. Many of the sites are scams. But Yura apparently has made millions because his customers think they are buying real hits. And as the investigation revealed, there is no shortage of customers all over America and all over the world. For his part, Yura promises deadly results.
