Dylan Baker, Lindsay Frost and Amber Marshall star in THE ELIZABETH SMART STORY, a new television movie about the high-profile abduction case that captivated the nation, to be broadcast as the "CBS Sunday Movie," Sunday, Nov. 9 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Based on accounts by the Smart family, the drama will recount the teenager's disturbing 2002 kidnapping from her Salt Lake City home and her remarkable return nine months later.
Dylan Baker ("Road to Perdition," "From the Earth to the Moon") will star as Ed Smart, Lindsay Frost ("Too Rich: The Secret Life of Doris Duke," "The Ring") as Lois Smart and Amber Marshall ("The Christmas Shoes," "Super Rupert") as Elizabeth Smart.
Fourteen-year-old Elizabeth (Marshall) was abducted from her bedroom on June 5, 2002. Her sister, Mary Katherine (Hannah Lochner), then 9, witnessed the abduction. Miraculously, months later, she told her parents that she recalled that the kidnapper resembled a man named Emmanuel (Tom Everett) who had once worked as a handyman for the family. On March 13, 2003, Elizabeth, now 15, was found in a suburb of Salt Lake City after police had received calls from two couples who recognized Brian David Mitchell (a.k.a. Emmanuel) from press reports. Mitchell, a woman later identified as Wanda Barzee (Hollis McLaren), and Elizabeth had been walking down the street carrying bedrolls when Mitchell was spotted.
The television movie will reveal new details, unknown to the public, about the family's intense story from the time Emmanuel first worked on the Smart's house, through the abduction, and ultimately Elizabeth's return home. The drama will center on the Smart family's search efforts, the community's support and how they navigated their way through the complicated justice system and the nationwide press frenzy over the case.
