CBS SPORTS UNVEILS NEW MUSIC BY YANNI AND ALL-NEW ANIMATION FOR NETWORK'S 2003 GOLF COVERAGE
CBS Sports' golf coverage has a brand new sound this year, with original music by composer Yanni. Selected for the new, opening animation theme and all related musical needs for CBS Sports' Emmy award-winning golf coverage is Yanni's "Fanfare." In addition, CBS Sports has incorporated all new animation for the network's golf coverage this year.
The CBS Television Network continues to offer viewers the most comprehensive lineup in the history of network television. CBS Sports will broadcast 20 golf tournaments, totaling more than 135 hours, including the Masters? and PGA Championship, 16 PGA TOUR events, the McDonald's LPGA Championship, as well as one Senior PGA TOUR event.
The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic is the next stop on CBS's coverage of the "West Coast Swing." CBS presents live, third-round and final-round coverage on Saturday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 2 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET; both days). CBS Sports will broadcast the offbeat and humorous LATE NIGHT Highlight Show, hosted by David Feherty and Gary McCord, featuring early-round play on Thursday, Jan. 30 and Friday, Jan. 31 (12:55-1:10 AM, ET; both nights).
CBS Sports Executive producer Tony Petitti and Creative Director Doug Towey were presented with the music by Yanni's Executive Producer George Veras in December 2002, and it was selected over all other submissions.
Brand new animation was built around the music and Yanni will personally be involved in the music's use for all other elements besides the opening, including billboards, bumpers, credits and graphics.
Yanni's music has been used extensively in network news and sports television throughout his career. "Marching Season" was used by CBS Sports for their 1990 Emmy Award-winning "Dream Season" on-air promotion campaign. Yanni's "Santorini" was the theme for CBS's U.S. Open Tennis Championships from 1989-97, and recently, was the main theme music for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics. His new album, Ethnicity is out February 11, his first book, Yanni in Words follows on Februar 12 and he will stage a 55-city North American tour starting March 1.
