(Originally broadcast 10/28/01)
In the film, about a magical wedding dress that moves through the lives of five different couples, Daly and her real-life daughter Kathryne Dora Brown ("For Love of Olivia"), play mother and daughter. Renowned designer Vera Wang has provided several of her designs for the film.
The story begins with bride-to-be Hannah Pinkham excitedly awaiting the return of her fiancé from World War II. Just days before the wedding, she learns that he has been killed, and her exquisite wedding dress, which she and her mother designed, is thrown into a cedar-lined trunk, put into the attic and forgotten.
More than five decades later, photographer Travis Cleveland (Harris) is set to marry a beautiful fashion model to the dismay of his adoring assistant, Zoey (Brown). When his fiancée refuses to wear the beautiful vintage gown that once belonged to his Aunt Hannah, he begins to realize that she may not be the woman of his dreams. Meanwhile, Travis loses Zoey, just as he starts to realize that she was truly his perfect match. Through a series of circumstances, the exquisite dress makes its way through four other couples, changing their lives and transcending the barriers of race, class and age, before it makes its way back to Zoey and works its magic on her.
Daly plays Zoey's mother, Joan Delano, an artist who uses the dress as a model for one of her paintings and ends up marrying a neighbor with whom she's been at odds for years. Colin plays Madeline Carter, who borrows the dress for a fundraiser, themed "The Wedding Dress," and ends up finding her "Mr. Right."
