PETER K. SCHRUTH
(President, Affiliate Relations, CBS Television)
Peter K. Schruth was named President, Affiliate Relations, CBS Television, in January 1999. In February 2002, he was also given responsibility for UPN Affiliate Relations. He reports directly to Leslie Moonves, Co-President and Co-Chief Operating Officer, Viacom, and Chairman, CBS.
Schruth had been Senior Vice President and General Manager, Affiliate Relations, CBS Television, since October 1995. He assumed that post after two decades of experience with the CBS Owned television stations, group-owned affiliates and independent stations.
By preserving and improving the CBS Television Network's distribution base, Schruth helped position it well for the business challenges ahead. During his tenure, relations between CBS's affiliates and the Network solidified and prospered. He set the tone for productive dialogue between the Network and its affiliates and helped to broker collaborative agreements on the affiliate NFL contribution, program exclusivity, promotion exchanges and a host of other issues.
Schruth had been Director, Sales, WCBS-TV, the CBS Owned television station in New York, since 1993, having returned to CBS from WLVI-TV Boston, where he had been director of sales (1989 to 1992).
He began his career at CBS National Sales, New York, in 1973 as a sales assistant and became a traffic clerk at WCBS-TV. In 1977, he joined Storer Television Sales, New York, as an account executive and in 1980 became group sales manager.
His additional posts have included local and national sales manager, WSBK-TV Boston (1981-83), and general sales manager, WAGA-TV, the CBS affiliate in Atlanta (1984-86). In 1987 and 1988, he was managing partner, S.K. Promotions, Inc., Atlanta.
Schruth is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass. (bachelor of arts, English and philosophy, 1973), and has done graduate work in business at Adelphi University. He is a native of San Francisco and lives in Old Greenwich, Conn., with his wife, Susan, and their three children, Peter, Kate and Anne.
