Tracy Smith was named co-anchor of CBS News' THE SATURDAY EARLY SHOW in Aug. 2005. She is also the National Correspondent for THE EARLY SHOW. Smith joined CBS News as a correspondent in Dec. 2000. She has covered numerous major news stories, including the London terror attacks, Campaign 2004, the war in Iraq, the crash of American Airlines flight 587 in Queens, N.Y., the Sept. 11 attacks, and the March 2001 school shooting in Santee, Calif. In Jan. 2004, she covered Campaign '04 from New Hampshire and interviewed a unique group of women, the wives of the then Democratic Presidential nominees, vying to be the next First Lady: Judith Steinberg Dean, Elizabeth Edwards, and Teresa Heinz Kerry.

Since joining THE EARLY SHOW, Smith has done numerous multi-part series on a variety issues such as Megan's Law and mothers and stress. In June 2004, she conducted a one-on-one interview with Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler. Smith also contributes to "Study Hall," a bi-monthly, in-depth report on teen issues intended to be viewed by both parents and their teenagers.

Before joining CBS News, Smith?worked as a?primary?anchor/reporter for?Channel One News in 1993, a?daily newscast that airs in more than 12,000 secondary?schools nationwide. She covered a broad range of stories there, including Yitzhak Rabin's?assassination?in Israel,?the rise of neo-Nazis in Germany, the uprising in?Chechnya, the civil war in Southern Sudan and the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda.

Prior to that, Smith served as a part-time reporter for KERO-TV,?the?CBS affiliate in Bakersfield, Calif.?

She is the recipient of seven National Educational Media Network Awards, including a Golden Apple for a?story on nuclear proliferation. The Chicago International Film Festival honored Smith with a Golden Hugo for a piece on abusive relationships.? She?was also awarded?a Gold World Medal from the New York Festivals for a series on?heroin abuse.

Smith was born in Wyoming, Ohio. She was graduated cum laude from Boston University in 1990 with a bachelor of science degree and from the University of Southern California in 1993 with a master's of arts degree in broadcast journalism. Smith currently lives in New York City with her husband, John D'Amelio, a producer for THE EARLY SHOW.
