Melinda Murphy has been a correspondent for THE EARLY SHOW since October 2002. She has covered a wide variety of lifestyle issues, and in 2004 reported from Florida on the aftermath of Hurricane Charley.

Prior to joining THE EARLY SHOW, Murphy was a feature and traffic reporter for WPIX-TV New York's morning news (2000-02). As the last airborne reporter on September 11, she reported on the collapse of both towers. Before that, Murphy was the morning reporter at News 12 New Jersey (1996-2000). Murphy also worked at WCBS-TV as a news writer and field producer (1996-98). She has an extensive background in production and has worked in a variety of television genres, including nationally televised live events and syndicated talk shows.

Murphy won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Coverage of an Instant Breaking Story (1997), a New York Emmy Award for Outstanding On-Camera Achievement for Feature Reporting (2001) and a New York State Broadcaster's Award for Best Feature (2002). She was also nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Coverage of an Instant Breaking Story (2001) for her series of reports on a row-house fire.

In 2002, Murphy co-edited Covering Catastrophe: Broadcast Journalists Report September 11, a collection of accounts from journalists who covered the events of that day. All royalties from the book are being matched by the publisher and will be donated to September 11-related charities.

Murphy was born on Dec. 10, 1963, in Midland, Texas. She was graduated from Texas A&M University in 1986 with a degree in journalism. Murphy lives with her husband in Guttenberg, N.J.
