BET NAMES NIGERIAN SINGER/SONGWRITER ASAKE AS THE
‘BET AMPLIFIED’ ARTIST FOR AUGUST 2023

New York, NY August 2, 2023 – BET names Nigerian singer and songwriter Asake as its BET Amplified artist for August. BET Amplified is BET Music's stamp of approval for the next big thing in music. Since Asake got his start releasing music around 2018, the recently BET Awards 2023 Best International New Act-nominated artist has taken the music world by storm. As BET celebrates the 50th anniversary of hip hop this month, the network is proud to amplify powerful and talented up-and-coming hip hop artists, and Asake is no exception. 

This Nigerian afropop singer-songwriter found breakout success with his 2020 single "Lady," and hasn’t slowed down since. With the release of “Mr. Money” and 2021 singles “Don’t Hype Me” and “Yan Yan” Asake steadily built a solid fanbase all the way up through the release of his 2022 debut EP, Ololade Asake. The EP’s lead single "Omo Ope” featuring Nigerian superstar Olamide went on to become Asake’s biggest single yet!

It’s no surprise that once Asake released his highly anticipated debut album Mr. Money with the Vibe in September of 2022, the album topped the charts in 31 countries worldwide, including Nigeria, the UK and Ireland. This year he released his second studio album Work of Art to which all 14 of the album’s tracks impressively landed on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs Chart. The album debuted at #4 on Billboard World Albums Chart, #66 on Billboard 200, and amassed nearly 350 million streams within the first couple of weeks.

Asake can now also add BET Amplified Artist to his list of accolades. As a BET Amplified artist, Asake will receive BET Music’s support across multiple BET campaigns and platforms, including BET, BET Her, BET Jams, BET Soul, BET.com, BET Socials, and BET’s Official YouTube Page.

ABOUT ASAKE:

Asake (born Ahmed Ololade Asake) always knew he wanted to be an entertainer. Performing traditional Yoruba dance alongside drummers and singers in his secondary school years, he went on to study theater and the performing arts at university. The Nigerian singer has been releasing blissful tunes since 2018, with his big break in 2020 from songs like the sweet “Lady” and his freestyle “Mr. Money,”. Since signing to Nigerian rap titan Olamide’s YBNL label and EMPIRE in early 2022, Asake has released songs that have topped the Nigerian Apple Music charts almost every month, including the amorous “Sungba” (featuring Burna Boy) and the anthemic “Peace Be Unto You,” both featured on his upcoming album Mr. Money with the Vibe.
