MTV names Teddy Swims as Global PUSH Artist for the month of February

The 31-year-old singer-songwriter discusses the role music plays in his healing journey

NEW YORK -- (Friday, February 2nd) – MTV PUSH has named Teddy Swims as the featured Global PUSH Artist for the month of February. The Georgia-born singer-songwriter's first single “Lose Control”, which landed on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, showcases Swims’ vulnerability and delves into the struggles of one of his previous relationships. His debut album I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (part 1) is a display of his uniquely emotional music and personal healing journey. Swims is most excited to share his process with his fans, following the realization that internalizing his feelings and writing about them can help others. On his favorite collaboration:

• “I think one of my favorite collaborations that I've gotten a chance to do was working with Thomas Rhett… it one of the coolest things ever and then I got a chance also to write on his song ‘Angels Don't Always Have Wings’ and that was my first song that I had got to ever write and put out for an artist that wasn’t me singing on. Working with Meghan Trainor too… I can’t say enough about how incredible of a person that she is.”

On writing “Lose Control”:

• “‘Lose Control’ we knew that song was really going to change my life… I just felt it. I never really felt like that that much before… I was just like… this is really going to work. We were in a writing camp for about four days with a bunch of folks and I was kinda going through a lot with the person I was dating at the time… Ekko had the beat of it and had produced it forever ago, but Julian had this idea and the whole camp was like: before we leave, we gotta write this song… We wanted to kinda go for something that was the same feeling you get from a ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ by Chris Stapleton. There's just that one kind of intricate run and when someone sings it… it really kinda grabs you from the very first line of the song.”

On his musical influences and songs that remind him of childhood:

• “I think a song that is really special to me and reminds me of being young… I have to go with “Take Cover” by Acceptance. That band was kinda really just the first that, that whole album was really the first thing that made me want to be a musician or singer.”
