CBS News and Stations Journalists Join Communities Along the Eclipse’s Path for Total Coverage of the Event’s Impact

As the solar eclipse crosses over North America, CBS News and Stations will provide collaborative and multiplatform coverage of the phenomenon with TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEARTLAND. The special coverage will appear on the CBS Television Network and the CBS News Streaming Network on Monday, April 8 (2:00-3:30 PM, ET).

CBS EVENING NEWS anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell and CBS MORNINGS co-host Tony Dokoupil will anchor their respective broadcasts and the special coverage from Indianapolis, Ind., on Monday, April 8. Special coverage will feature reports from CBS MORNINGS co-host Nate Burleson, and CBS News correspondents across the country including Janet Shamlian in Kerrville, Texas, Omar Villafranca in Dallas, Mark Strassmann in Russellville, Ark., Lana Zak in Indianapolis, and Dave Malkoff in Cleveland.

CBS News and Stations’ unique collaboration between local and national teams and across programs will enable viewers to enjoy the most robust and comprehensive coverage of the cosmic event. TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEARTLAND will feature on-the-ground reporting from CBS Stations including:

• CBS Philadelphia (KYW)

Chief meteorologist Bill Kelly will broadcast live from KYW-TV’s state-of-the-art augmented/virtual reality weather set, where he will take viewers on an immersive 3D experience explaining how the weather is impacted along the solar eclipse’s path of totality.

• CBS Chicago (WBBM)

Anchors Irika Sargent and Joe Donlon will join the coverage from the studio and chief meteorologist Albert Ramon will report from the field.

• CBS Boston (WBZ)

Reporter Mike Sullivan will be in Burlington, Vt., to speak with spectators and enthusiasts about the impact of the eclipse.

• CBS New York (WCBS)

Anchor Kristine Johnson will join from Niagara Falls.

• CBS Newspath

Correspondent Jarred Hill will wrap up the day’s events.

Former NASA astronauts, aerospace engineers and science experts, including Bill Nye “The Science Guy,” astronomer Lucianne Walkowicz and CBS News space consultant Bill Harwood will provide analysis and context of the eclipse. Actor William Shatner will also make a special appearance.

Leading up to the solar eclipse, CBS News Streaming will begin special coverage on Friday, April 5. On Monday, April 8, CBS News Streaming will cover the total solar eclipse on all dayparts with a streaming special from 1:00-4:00 PM, ET anchored by CBS News Streaming anchor and national correspondent Lilia Luciano. CBS News Streaming will simulcast the Network’s TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEARTLAND special from 2:00-3:30 PM, ET as part of its coverage.

CBSNews.com will also have a live blog featuring coverage and scenes from across the country, including reporting from our owned and operated stations within the path of totality. CBS News’ social team will produce explainers and creative visualizations, incorporating journalists from across CBS News and Stations, to help viewers better understand the event.
