Oprah Winfrey and Maria Shriver open up about their struggles with menopause in a revealing conversation on "the Checkup with Dr. David Agus." "The Talk" hosts weigh in. Sheryl Underwood shares, "I was put into menopause in my thirties because I had fibroids and they thought it would shrink my fibroids but that didn't work. So, I had to have a myomectomy, a partial hysterectomy, which led me not to be able to have children." She adds, "I had a different experience. I still felt sexy. I still felt desirable, even though I was going into menopause in my 30s." She continues, "One of my doctors gave me the pellet and that brought my sex drive to my teenage years." Natalie Morales adds, "What I do think is a really good take away and the message that Oprah and Maria are having is that people don't really talk about it. I mean I joke around here, I say I'm perimenopausal and I don't sleep...I also have had my heart racing in the middle of the night. I wake up thinking, 'Is this anxiety?' What is this? And knowing some of the symptoms, I think that's the key." Akbar Gbajabiamila says, "My wife is 40, she hasn't reached that stage yet of menopause. But hearing this has allowed me to have a lot more empathy... being able to hear Maria's experience and Oprah's experience. Having the conversation allows men to be there for their wives in ways that weren't traditional for men."
