Amara Patterson in “All American: Homecoming”

In The CW’s new drama “All American: Homecoming,” Kelly Jenrette stars as Amara Patterson, a successful journalist and activist, not to mention the most popular professor on campus, and Simone’s (Geffri Maya) aunt. She welcomes her niece’s crew as family. Amara is unapologetic in her desire to report the truth, which puts her at odds with the administration. But when they appear to come after her personally for blowing the whistle on their former baseball scandal, she stumbles upon a new story that could change Bringston University forever.

In 2018, Jenrette and her husband became the first African American married couple to be nominated for Emmys® in the same year. Jenrette’s Emmy® nomination was for her portrayal of Annie in season two of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Jenrette’s two latest films can be found on Netflix: “Uncorked” and “All Day and A Night.” In the latter, Jenrette stars alongside Jeffrey Wright and Ashton Sanders.

She is also in the second season of the hit anthology show “Manhunt: Deadly Games” and can be seen as Winona on “Limetown.” Jenrette has also been a series regular on the comedy “Grandfathered,” starring John Stamos; a recurring guest star role on “Mixed•ish,” “Here and Now,” “Pitch” and “Graves.” You may also remember her from her twelve Kmart commercials as Kmart Kelly!

Jenrette, a native of Atlanta, resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Melvin Jackson Jr.
