Joe Port and Joe Wiseman

July 2021

When Joe Port and Joe Wiseman met in 1998 while working as assistants and ironically sharing a cubicle on the animated comedy “Dilbert,” they had no idea that their partnership would span decades. That year, “Dilbert” executive producer Larry Charles read Port and Wiseman’s spec script for “King of the Hill” and afterwards made them writers on the sitcom’s second season, giving them their first writing credit as collaborators.

While Port and Wiseman grew up in different parts of the United States: Port in Altoona, PA, attending the University of Pennsylvania, and Wiseman in Denver, attending the College of Santa Fe, they both shared a love of British comedy that they have nurtured throughout their careers. Among their many credits, they have written for the American remake of “The Office” and were executive producers/show runners for the U.S. version of “The IT Crowd.” Now with GHOSTS, Port and Wiseman bring another beloved British comedy to America.

Among the many notable series they have written for are “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” “The Last O.G.,” “The Odd Couple,” “The Crazy Ones” starring Robin Williams, “1600 Penn,” “New Girl,” “Last Man Standing" and “Just Shoot Me.” In addition, they have written and produced numerous pilots, including “What About Barb,” “Joe, Joe & Jane” and “Rebounding.”

Wiseman is a former Twin Galaxies’ recognized world record holder for largest margin of victory against the computer on the Nintendo game Tecmo Super Bowl, and Port is a former college political cartoonist for the Daily Pennsylvanian.
