CBS SPORTS TO CELEBRATE THE LEGACY OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. WITH SPECIAL PROGRAMMING ACROSS PLATFORMS

CBS Sports’ “Living the Dream” Series to Debut Two Extended Vignettes on CBS Sports Network Highlighting NBA Star CJ McCollum and UCLA Guard Charisma Osborne

 

CBS Sports will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with features, stories, and conversations throughout its college basketball games and studio coverage beginning on Saturday, January 14 through Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 16. The programming will air across platforms including the CBS Television Network, CBS Sports Network, CBS Sports Digital and CBS social media platforms.

 

The celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will tip off on Saturday during INSIDE COLLEGE BASKETBALL at 12:30 PM, ET with a sit-down interview featuring Clark Kellogg and Indiana head coach Mike Woodson leading into the Wisconsin-Indiana game on CBS and Paramount+. The lifelong friends discuss the importance of remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and reminisce about the 1980 Big Ten Championship between Kellogg’s Ohio State Buckeyes and Woodson’s Indiana Hoosiers.

 

On Sunday’s THE NFL TODAY at Noon, ET on CBS, Nyheim Hines of the Buffalo Bills tells the story of his grandparents’ connection to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and reflects on the legacy that Dr. King left behind. 

 

James Brown will open Monday's slate of games by celebrating the Civil Rights Movement and speaking to the influence of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the sports world.

 

Throughout the weekend, CBS Sports will air vignettes from its series “Living the Dream”, which celebrates sports figures who are using their platforms to enact change and help work toward the world Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of.

 

Two extended “Living the Dream” episodes will debut Monday on CBS Sports Network and highlight New Orleans Pelicans star CJ McCollum, who reflects on the values he tries to uphold in his own life, and how he uses his position to help others and make a difference, and UCLA guard and social advocate Charisma Osborne, who speaks to the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on her life and how she uses her platform to enact change. The McCollum piece will run during halftime of the Lehigh vs. Loyola men’s game while the Osborne episode will air during halftime of the Boise State vs. UNLV women’s game.

 

On Sunday, CBS Sports analyst Leah Secondo sits down with Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade to discuss the conference’s celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and the efforts she’s made to bring diversity and inclusion to the forefront of the A10. The interview will air in two parts with one segment running during halftime of the Loyola-Rhode Island women’s game and the other during halftime of the Dayton-Saint Louis women’s game on CBS Sports Network. 

 

On Monday, CBS Sports Network will showcase a tripleheader of Atlantic 10 games in a day honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The schedule begins with George Washington against George Mason (women’s) at Noon, ET, continues with Saint Joseph’s versus LaSalle (men’s) at 2:00 PM, ET and concludes with George Washington at George Mason (men’s) at 4:00 PM, ET.

 

Also, during halftime of the George Mason-George Washington men’s game, CBS Sports will spotlight George Mason walk-on guard Chase Tucker, who shares the story of his grandfather, Sebron “Ed” Tucker, who broke the color barrier at Stanford University in 1950 as the school’s first Black athlete. The story also takes a closer look at Tucker’s family history and the principles he instills in his life.

Saturday, Jan. 14 – Monday, Jan. 16

  • Additional “Living the Dream” installments will run during the weekend across CBS Sports’ linear, digital and social platforms featuring INSIDE THE NFL’s Brandon Marshall, Chicago Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren and Phoenix Mercury forward Brianna Turner.

 

Monday, Jan. 16

  • During halftime of the Saint Joseph’s-LaSalle men’s game on CBS Sports Network, players and coaches from both teams reflect on the impact and significance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in their own lives, and the progress they hope to see in 2023 and beyond.
  • Players and coaches from around the country reflect on the impact and significance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a feature during halftime of the UAB-Middle Tennessee men’s game on CBS Sports Network.
