Broadcaster Joins CBS Chicago After Covering Major Hurricanes and Severe Weather Events for CBS Miami

CHICAGO – Aug. 25, 2026 – CBS Chicago today announced Emmy-nominated meteorologist Shane Hinton is joining the station’s First Alert Weather Team. Hinton joins CBS Chicago from sister-owned station CBS Miami, where he served as a weekday meteorologist, bringing extensive experience covering severe weather across the country. His first on-air appearance will be Saturday, Aug. 29, during the 5:00 AM newscast.

At CBS Miami, he played a key role in launching the station’s immersive AR/VR Weather Sphere, bringing innovative and advanced weather technology to viewers.

Shane will be a tremendous addition to our First Alert Weather Team and to the viewers who rely on us every day.”

Previously, Hinton forecasted weather in Austin, Texas, and New Bern, N.C., where he provided coverage of the historic Hurricane Florence, which devastated the community of Eastern North Carolina. Hinton earned both a Bachelor of Science in meteorology, and a Master of Professional Science in atmospheric science and broadcast meteorology from the University of Miami (UM). During his time at UM, he conducted research to help determine the accuracy of hurricane forecast models in addition to analyzing general forecast model accuracy for the South Florida climate.
