CBS TEXAS RETURNS TO THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY WITH SPECIAL REPORTING ONE YEAR AFTER THE CAMP MYSTIC FLOODS, TODAY, JULY 2 

CBS Texas to Broadcast Every Show Live from Kerrville Beginning Friday, July 3 at 5 AM CT, Through Saturday, July 4 at 10 PM CT

DALLAS-FORT WORTH, Texas – July 2, 2026 – CBS Texas (KTVT-TV) today announced special coverage to mark the one-year remembrance of the Central Texas floods. The station will air 7 ½ hours of live special coverage from Kerrville beginning Friday, July 3 at 5 AM through Saturday, July 4, 10 PM newscast. Reporter Bo Evans, the first journalist from the station who reported from the floods last year, will lead the station’s coverage. 

Evans returned to the region earlier this year to spend a week documenting the community’s recovery efforts. Leading up to the special coverage, CBS Texas produced stories about the impact of last year’s floods and what has occurred over the past year, including investigative pieces examining the rising costs of flood insurance and whether enough warning sirens were added to the impacted region. Additional and upcoming coverage includes:

• Monday, June 29 – A San Antonio police officer who rescued his neighbors during the Camp Mystic floods also lost his century-old family home. The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country stepped in and rebuilt his home eight months later at no cost to him.

• Tuesday, June 30 – Rising flood insurance costs are leaving thousands of Texans without coverage. The report delves into the ongoing debate over how to make flood insurance more affordable for vulnerable communities.

• Wednesday, July 1 – CBS Texas followed up with a Kerr County rancher who found the bodies of 10 victims on his property. He has been unable to rebuild or move forward from the devastation. 

• Saturday, July 4 – In the 10 p.m. newscast, the station will air the live performance and interview with the Josh Abbott Band, whose personal connection to the flooding inspired their recent release of the song ‘27 Butterflies.’ Interview conducted by journalists Ken Molestina and Vince Bosquez.

• Saturday, July 4 – The documentary ‘Harmony in the Hills’ follows the orchestra in the Hill Country, who were greatly impacted by the floods, as they come back together to perform their first concert following the flood. CBS reporter Marvin Hurst and CBS photojournalist Doug Burgess worked together to create this moving piece.
