Headshots Here
ATLANTA – Aug. 14, 2025 – CBS Atlanta is launching its local news and weather operations with a team deeply connected to the city and its surrounding communities. From the newsroom to the control room – and now the weather – the station is powered by journalists, creatives and leaders who live in or hail from the region, bringing authentic local insight to every story and forecast. Beginning Saturday, Aug. 16, viewers will make the switch to CBS Atlanta (WUPA, channel 69) and on Monday, Aug. 18, they will see local weather coverage during CBS MORNINGS, ahead of the station’s full news launch in September.
“We aren’t just hiring a team – we are building one from the community,” said Jennifer Mitchell, president of CBS Stations. “They’re here to listen, serve and tell stories that matter.”
A Team That Knows Atlanta
Among the key hires is Nichole Green, assistant news director, joining from CBS New York, where she led community-focused coverage as executive producer impacting communities (EPIC). An Emmy-nominated journalist with ties to the community, Green brings editorial leadership and a passion for storytelling that resonates locally.
Other newsroom leaders include:
-
Lea-Anne Jackson, creative services director – A longtime Atlanta resident with a deep storytelling background and three decades in the market. She has worked at WUPA for the past five years.
-
Alex Sanz, managing editor (starting Aug. 18) – A veteran journalist and multiplatform leader with a dozen years in Atlanta, including roles at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Associated Press. He is on the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter.
CBS Atlanta also welcomes Troy Bridges as meteorologist. Bridges joins from CBS Detroit, an owned station, and brings decades of experience forecasting severe weather across the Southeast and Midwest – from tornadoes and tropical storms to ice events and wildfires. A Georgia native and University of Georgia alum, Bridges began his career in Macon and Augusta before leading weather teams in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Florida. “I am so excited to return to my home state and to be part of the launch of CBS News Atlanta,” said Bridges. “As a proud Georgia Bulldog, I enthusiastically look forward to delivering weather forecasts to the city I love.”
Canedo emphasized the station’s mission: “Our team reflects the energy and authenticity of this city. We’re committed to solutions journalism that informs, inspires and holds the powerful accountable – a station built for and with Atlanta.”
CBS Atlanta has also hired producers and photojournalists with strong local ties, ensuring every editorial decision is made with care and context. A growing team of community journalists is already working closely with editorial and newsgathering – and out in neighborhoods – to spotlight stories that truly matter to Atlanta residents.
Last week, CBS named its senior leadership team:
-
Tom Canedo, president and general manager
-
Shawn Hoder, vice president of news
-
Barbara Roeder, vice president of sales
