Wade and how it will affect those seeking abortions in states where it will become illegal. Johnson said, “We see state after state introducing incredibly extreme and harmful legislation related to criminalizing IVF, criminalizing IUDs, criminalizing emergency contraception.” She added, “The increased criminalization that can happen. And, again, I’m not sure how they will enforce these kinds of laws, but these are the kind of things that are being contemplated and we have to be very alarmed about them.”

TRANSCRIPT EXCERPT

NORAH O’DONNELL: Justice Alito and other conservatives wrote in the majority opinion that this will not affect contraceptive rights. He said abortion rights are inherently different from rights involving contraception and same-sex relationships. Is that how you see it?

ALEXIS MCGILL JOHNSON: No, not at all. We see state after state introducing incredibly extreme and harmful legislation related to criminalizing IVF, criminalizing IUDs, criminalizing emergency contraception.

O’DONNELL: Wait, you’re already seeing?

JOHNSON: They’re introducing these kinds of laws.

O’DONNELL: To make it criminal to travel to another state to get an abortion.

JOHNSON: Yes.

O’DONNELL: What would be the effect of that?

JOHNSON: We’re seeing people spying on each other, neighbors spying on each other, all for to deny people to make decisions about their own body. The increased criminalization that can happen. And, again, I’m not sure how they will enforce these kinds of laws, but these are the kind of things that are being contemplated and we have to be very alarmed about them.
