Drew: I’d like to talk about something that really bugs me…sometimes things just really ruffle my feathers. The built in bra pads to a swim suit these ruffle my feathers…I just wonder what insane person thought you know what I have an idea I am going to decide what your chest looks like and how it functions, this really ruffles my feathers…yeah this is not looking so good. It was so much cuter in rehearsal, you try wearing a white bathing suit over your clothes….

Kathie Lee: This one is romantic comedy Drew for people who no longer believe that they will ever have romance again and nothing is very funny anymore but there are millions of people out there like that and Hollywood, you know better than anyone doesn’t really make a lot of movies for people like that….The line that’s getting a lot of attention from it when she’s saying to her husband’s ashes, ‘I love you Fred but I’ve got to make new memories or the old ones are going to kill me and I’m not ready to die, not yet.’

Drew: I mean when you said like you don’t know if you are going to find love again, that just really hit me.

Kathie Lee: Yeah there is hope though. One of the songs Brett and I wrote is called Once Again and it says, ‘You don’t find love, love finds you in the midst of a moment right out of the blue.  It sneaks up on your heart hardly making a sound until all of sudden you find, you’ve been found.’ And that’s what real love is. It just all of a sudden you go, ‘Oh my God my life just changed, my heart just changed. Everything has changed.’

Drew: There’s a real life fact I wanted to ask you about because it spoke so much to me. Apparently there were times where you would land in NY and you would feel like is this where I am supposed to be? Having nothing to do with the state. You had fantasies of another life in another place and you realized them.

Kathie Lee: I’d get on a plane in Nashville on my way back to the Today Show the next day and I would go, ‘Why am I so happy when I am down here? What is this?’ because I thought when I left The Today Show I was going to move to California, I always said, ‘I’m going to die in Santa Barbara,’ it’s such a beautiful place.

Drew: It’s a great place to die and live.

Kathie Lee: It’s a great place to die but spending a year here it’s a culture of kindness here. They don’t care who you are going to vote for, they don’t yell at you, they don’t try to tell you how to think or worship. They let you be as a human being. I found a real faith based community here, ‘God bless you Kathie Lee I was praying for you this morning,’ I’ve never met them before and I believe them, they were praying for me that morning. It’s just sweet.

Drew: Okay both of your children got married this year. I love it 2020 the year of so many plans put on hold but both of your kids went ahead and did it.

Kathie Lee: Yes, this summer. You know it was really extraordinary everybody has had loss through this whole season of Covid and many people have missed out on things they were really really looking forward to. Both of my children were planning big weddings. Cassie’s was first, her fiancé’s childhood home a 150 acre farm in Michigan, there were 18 people. Then Cody was married in our backyard over Labor Day Weekend, we got bigger, we were 19 people at that one. He married his longtime love Erika. You know what it turned out to be such a blessing Drew because it got down to exactly what a wedding should be about. It’s not about how many people you have, how much it cost, how much your dress was. Literally, it’s one day in your life. Cass said and Ben said to me, ‘Mom we want to be married. We want to be married, so can we just,’ and I said, ‘Yes, it makes me so happy.’ Especially since I’m the mother of the bride and I’m going to have to pay for it.

Drew: Now we have a guest in the wall who wanted to ask you a question…

Cassidy: What advice would you give your 27 year old self?

Kathie Lee: Do everything your mother tells you to do and you will live a fabulous life and marry the man of your dreams and become an Oscar winning actress, do what I did.

Drew: Ladies and gentlemen this is Cassidy, Kathie Lee’s real life daughter….I am so happy for you that you had this beautiful, perfectly toned intimate wedding this year and you guys have so much hope and joy to bring about in this year that has been so difficult for so many people. I know everybody is going through it but I just feel like your story really resonates with people.

Cassidy: Thank you so much Drew for saying that. Truly it probably sounds like I’m full of it but I would not trade a single thing. It was about what it was supposed to be about and we’re just kind of in bliss about it all. It’s been wonderful.
