A DR. PHIL EXCLUSIVE: THE GYPSY ROSE BLANCHARD JAILHOUSE INTERVIEW

AN ALLEGED VICTIM OF MUNCHAUSEN SYNDROME BY PROXY, BLANCHARD PLED GUILTY TO SECOND-DEGREE MURDER OF HER MOTHER

THE SPECIAL TWO-PART DR. PHIL AIRS TUESDAY, NOV. 21 AND WEDNESDAY, NOV. 22

(Hollywood, CA – Nov. 14, 2017) – DR. PHIL, television’s #1-rated daytime talk show, continues its 16th hit season with the ripped-from-the-headlines exclusive interview with Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who is serving 10 years in Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center after pleading guilty to second degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee. For more than a decade, while perfectly healthy, Gypsy was forced by her mother to use a wheelchair and additionally suffered unnecessary torturous medical procedures and painful surgeries as her seemingly devoted mother received praise from doctors and family. Experts believe she was the victim of a severe case of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a relatively rare form of abuse in which a guardian exaggerates or induces illness in a child for attention and sympathy. In June 2015, Dee Dee was found fatally stabbed – a gruesome murder Gypsy claims she plotted with her boyfriend whom she met online. The all-new two-part DR. PHIL episodes air Tuesday, Nov. 21 and Wednesday, Nov. 22 (check local listings).

Selected quotes from the episode:

She said that I had muscular dystrophy.” – Gypsy Rose Blanchard on why her mother had her use a walker and wheelchair.

Could she have been poisoning you to keep you sick?” – Dr. Phil asking Gypsy about her mother and the multiple medications Gypsy was taking.

She told me that I couldn’t speak during the doctor’s appointment.  She would tell me ‘just sit in your wheelchair, play with your Barbie dolls and let me talk.’ And this continued on even into my twenties.” – Gypsy on her mother

Should you be in prison?” – Dr. Phil to Gypsy

DR. PHIL is produced by Peteski Productions in association with CBS Television Distribution, which also distributes the show. Carla Pennington and Dr. Phillip C. McGraw are the executive producers.
