June 2018

Jay Hernandez had one of those serendipitous experiences that led to his career. While riding an elevator in a high rise in his native Los Angeles, he was approached by a talent manager who suggested he had what it took to have a successful career in Hollywood. Now, Hernandez is noted as one of the few Latino leading men in the entertainment industry, and he has had the honor of working with some of the most in-demand writers, directors, producers and actors of his time.

In 2016 Hernandez starred in two of the biggest summer movies of that year. He portrayed El Diablo in the DC Comic feature “Suicide Squad” from director David Ayer, which earned over $746 million worldwide. Also, he starred opposite Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell in the R-rated comedy “Bad Moms,” which grossed over $183 million worldwide. He reprised his role in the sequel “A Bad Moms Christmas” in 2017. He reunited with director David Ayer and Will Smith on the Netflix crime fantasy “Bright,” which premiered to a record-breaking 11 million plus viewers within the first three days.

Hernandez emerged onto the Hollywood scene opposite Kirsten Dunst in the 2001 film “Crazy/Beautiful,” which earned him an ALMA Award nomination for Outstanding Actor. His additional film credits include the psychological thriller “Hostel,” from writer/director Eli Roth and executive producer Quentin Tarantino, which earned Hernandez a Teen Choice Award nomination; the acclaimed Oliver Stone 9/11 project “World Trade Center”; “Friday Night Lights” opposite Billy Bob Thornton, which won the 2004 AFI Award for Movie of the Year; “Ladder 49” alongside Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta; the action-thriller “Torque” with Ice Cube; “The Rookie,” opposite Dennis Quaid for director John Lee Hancock; “Takers,” opposite Matt Dillon and Idris Elba; and the crime-drama “Lakeview Terrace,” with Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington.

On television, Hernandez recurred on the hit drama series “Scandal” opposite Kerry Washington. Also, he starred in the crime drama “Gang Related” from Chris Morgan (“Fast & Furious” franchise) and the acclaimed, yet short-lived J.J. Abrams series “Six Degrees.” In addition, Hernandez recurred on “Nashville,” the SyFy series “The Expanse” and “Last Resort.”

Hernandez was born, raised and currently resides in Los Angeles. His birthday is Feb. 20. Hernandez can be followed on Twitter @Jay_Hernandez and Instagram @JayHernandez001.
